About Yufu Jade
Learn about Yufu Jade, a Shanghai jade workshop founded by Fu Xuefei in 2002: six specialist studios, a complete material-to-finish craft process, honest product standards and personal service for both Chinese and international buyers.
Two decades of carving, one complete process
Yufu Jade was founded in 2002 by Fu Xuefei, a recognised master of Shanghai-style jade carving. What began as a single carving bench has grown into six specialist studios bringing together experienced and noted jade artists.
The workshop carries the whole journey of a piece: material selection, design, carving, finishing, polishing and sale. Because the hands that select the stone and the people who answer your questions work under the same roof, the information you receive comes from the source rather than from layers of distribution.
Explore the collectionsFu Xuefei and the Fu family carving tradition
Fu Xuefei is described as the fifty-third generation of the Fu family jade craft tradition. The family story connects its work to jade artisans who served imperial patrons during the Kangxi and Qianlong periods, and that lineage still shapes the workshop's standards: respect the material, keep the carving honest, and let the stone lead the design.
“Skilled hands shape beautiful jade, and the finished piece carries its spirit forward.”
— The guiding phrase of the Yufu Jade workshop
Heritage is treated as a design responsibility, not as a sales claim: each modern piece still stands on its own material, workmanship and confirmed details.
Six studios, one standard
Each studio owns one stage of the work, and every piece passes through all of them before it reaches a customer.
How a Yufu Jade piece is made
- Select the materialThe stone is read for colour, texture, translucency and any natural features the carving should respect.
- Design for the stoneThe motif is drawn to fit this particular piece of jade, not forced onto it.
- Carve by handRelief and silhouette are built up gradually, with the design checked against the stone at every stage.
- Polish and finishSurfaces are brought to an even finish, and edges, openings and wear points are refined.
- Inspect, document, deliverMeasurements, photographs and the description are confirmed before the piece is shown to you.
Honest standards you can check before paying
What we do not do: we do not attach certificates that do not exist, do not describe treatments as “natural and untreated” without confirmation, do not promise supernatural effects from a motif, and do not rush a recommendation just to close a sale.
A trusted choice for Chinese and international buyers
Familiar with the tradition, served with care
Peace buckles, gourds, zodiac animals and auspicious motifs are presented with their cultural reading explained properly, as tradition rather than as a promised result. The Fu family lineage, the name's root in the Book of Rites, and the workshop's respect for colour and texture speak to buyers who already understand jade culture and want a trustworthy partner for gifting and collecting.
Clear explanations, no cultural barrier
Cultural references are translated into plain English, measurements are given in millimetres, and sizing, treatment disclosure and shipping are explained step by step. You can ask any question, request more photos, and follow our Jade Buying Guide before choosing. Orders are arranged through personal consultation, so you always know exactly what you are buying.
A name rooted in the history of jade craft
The name Yufu comes from an idea recorded in the ancient Chinese text known as the Book of Rites. It describes the resources around the imperial city supporting both the court and the skilled artisans who served it.
Fu Xuefei is described as the fifty-third generation of the Fu family jade craft tradition. The family story connects its work to jade artisans who served imperial patrons during the Kangxi and Qianlong periods. Yufu carries that heritage as a design responsibility, while each modern piece still needs its own material and workmanship evidence.
Questions buyers ask us
How does Yufu Jade confirm a piece is natural jade?
Material is selected and described by the workshop itself, which has handled nephrite jade for more than two decades. Each piece is described individually, and any testing documents available for that specific piece are shared on request. Yufu Jade does not attach a blanket certificate to every item or invent laboratory claims.
Can I see more photos and videos before deciding?
Yes. Ask for daylight close-ups, videos, weight and exact measurements of the individual piece. Because every order is arranged through a personal consultation, you review the actual piece before committing.
Do you serve buyers outside China?
Yes. Orders for international buyers are arranged through consultation in plain English, including measurements, cultural background of the design, packaging and delivery details. Payment and shipping terms are confirmed in writing before you commit.
How does a custom commission work?
The custom studio works one-to-one with you: share the budget, motif and intended use, review the design drawings, follow the carving with progress photos, and approve the piece before final polishing. You participate in the decisions rather than receiving a finished object without context.
How is pricing decided?
The price of each piece follows its stone, workmanship, size and finishing. Yufu Jade describes comparable pieces as often priced 40% to 50% below market references, while the current price of every item still depends on the individual piece and its confirmed details.
What if the piece is not what I expected?
Because you review the exact piece, its daylight photographs, video and measurements before ordering, surprises are rare. Any after-sale terms, including returns or exchanges, are confirmed in writing during the consultation before payment.
The meaning behind the mark
In Chinese culture, jade is associated with purity and virtue. Yufu Jade pairs that idea with the image of the God of Wealth seated on a jade disc, reflecting the workshop's guiding phrase: skilled hands shape beautiful jade, and the finished piece carries its spirit forward.
