Hetian Jade Authenticity
Confidence begins with information about the individual piece.
Look closely at the jade, understand its description and ask for the evidence available. Yufu Jade arranges purchases through personal consultation, so you can discuss material, measurements and documentation before deciding.
Ask About a Piece
What the description tells you
Hetian jade is nephrite. Names such as white jade, Qinghua and mutton-fat white describe colour or appearance in the jade trade. Seed jade, or zi liao, describes material associated with water-worn alluvial pebbles. These terms help explain a listing, but each claim needs to be considered on its own.
- Material
- Ask how the stone has been identified as nephrite, and whether the information comes from a supplier description or a laboratory report.
- Origin
- A Xinjiang origin claim needs its own supporting information. The words Hetian jade on a report do not automatically establish where the stone was mined.
- Treatments
- Ask specifically about dyeing, impregnation, coatings or other treatments. Natural-looking colour and a polished surface do not establish that a piece is untreated.
- Other components
- Coloured spacers, gold fittings and cords should be identified separately from the jade. Check which parts are covered by any documentation.
A closer view before you decide
Request daylight photographs and close-ups of the front, back, edges and any skin-coloured areas. For a bracelet, include the bead holes, cord connections and fastening. An on-wrist photograph and measurements help you judge scale.
Use the images to compare visible texture, inclusions, carving and polish. Studio lighting, camera settings and your screen can change the colour you see. Photographs support an informed comparison; they cannot replace testing for material identity or treatment.
Read the Jade Buying GuideReading a testing report
Ask whether a report is available for the piece you are considering. Review a readable copy before ordering, including the laboratory name, report number, item description and stated test results.
- Match the report to the piece. Compare its photograph, weight, dimensions and identifying details where supplied.
- Verify the issuer. Use the laboratory's independently located official website or contact details to check the report number. A QR code alone is not verification.
- Read the scope. Check exactly what the report identifies and whether treatments, origin or individual bracelet components are addressed. Omitted information is not a negative test result.
- Resolve unanswered questions. Ask what additional information or independent testing can be arranged, including any cost and timing, before payment.
A testing report describes the item and tests within its scope. It is not a guarantee of market value, investment performance or a particular grade unless those matters are explicitly covered.
Confirm the complete picture
Send the product link or reference with your questions. Ask Yufu Jade to confirm the current piece, material description, measurements, any treatment information and the documents available for that item.
Before paying, agree the price and currency, included components, delivery arrangements and any return or after-sale terms in writing. If a detail has not been confirmed, resolve it during the consultation.
Discuss Your QuestionsQuestions about jade authenticity
Does every piece come with a certificate?
Certificate availability is confirmed for the individual piece. Ask for a readable copy of any available report, its issuing laboratory and its report number before ordering. A product photograph or a trade name is not a testing report.
Can photographs prove that jade is natural or untreated?
Photographs help you compare colour, shape, carving and visible surface features. They cannot establish mineral identity or rule out treatments. Laboratory testing may be needed to answer those questions.
Does a Hetian jade report prove Xinjiang origin?
A material identification of Hetian jade or nephrite does not by itself establish a geographic source. Ask whether the report specifically addresses origin and what other provenance information is available.
What does mutton-fat white mean?
Mutton-fat white is a traditional description of a creamy white jade appearance. The term alone is not an independent laboratory grade or proof of origin, treatment status or value.
Can the spacer beads and fittings be different materials?
Yes. A jade bracelet can include cord, metal fittings and accent beads made from other materials. Ask for those components to be identified separately and check which components any report actually covers.

For a specific certificate, use the issuing laboratory's official verification service. Check the item details and the stated test results rather than relying on a seller's logo, a screenshot or a copied report number.
