Green Hetian Jade Plaque: Archaistic Dragon and Phoenix, 53 g

No. This individual piece has already been collected and remains online as a reference. You can ask Yufu Jade to look for a similar material, form or carving subject; any new piece is documented and quoted separately.

A dark rectangular plaque combines dragon-and-phoenix scrolls with a raised circular textured field. The three views show the relationship between polished curls, small repeated dots and the thicker outer border. The framing is part of the composition, so examine its relationship to the central motif as well as the motif itself. Edge and angled views help show whether the border is raised, recessed or simply outlined, and make the transitions into the main surface easier to assess.

The listed dimensions are 60 x 39 mm, approximately 2.36 x 1.54 in. Compare these measurements with a ruler to judge the scale. Listed weight: 53 g. Confirm the suspension opening and any included cord or fittings.

Archaistic carving reinterprets ornament associated with early Chinese art, including stylized animals, scrolls and geometric patterns. The term describes the design style and does not mean that the object is an archaeological antique. Read this as the traditional subject of the carving, rather than a statement about its age, maker or a promised effect on the owner.
