About This Piece
The many arms of Guanyin spread around a seated figure within a dark green, tapering oval. A plain reverse places the emphasis on the devotional relief at the front.
Carving details and what to examine
The quieter reverse gives a useful comparison with the worked face. View the front, back and edge together to see how the relief meets the outline and how the polish changes across the surfaces. A smooth-looking back in a photograph does not establish that the stone is free of internal features.
Material and stated origin
This plaque is listed as green nephrite (qingyu) and depicts Thousand-Armed Guanyin. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification.
