About This Piece

Mountains, trees and a small pavilion create a densely layered oval landscape. The three front views show the variation between shallow distant scenery and the more raised foreground.

Carving details and what to examine

Read the landscape from its outer outline toward the smaller architectural and natural details. Changes in spacing and carved depth can suggest distance on a small surface. Side-lit close-ups help distinguish raised details from shadows cast by studio lighting.

Material and stated origin

This plaque is listed as white nephrite and depicts Dreams of Mountains and Rivers. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification. The supplied description notes golden-speckled skin. This is a description of appearance, not confirmation of treatment status.
