About This Piece

Two long curved plaques form a landscape pair. Their narrow silhouettes and gently arcing sides are apparent in the group photograph, while the separate views show the continuation of the carved scenes.

Carving details and what to examine

Read the landscape from its outer outline toward the smaller architectural and natural details. Changes in spacing and carved depth can suggest distance on a small surface. Side-lit close-ups help distinguish raised details from shadows cast by studio lighting.

Material and stated origin

This plaque pair is listed as white nephrite and depicts Picturesque Mountains and Rivers. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification. The supplied description notes yellow skin. This is a description of appearance, not confirmation of treatment status.

The meaning behind this piece

Chinese landscape carving, often called shanshui, translates mountains and water into relief. Differences in scale, open space and overlapping forms suggest distance within a small piece of jade.

Size and handling

The supplied dimensions are 130 x 29 mm (approximately 5.12 x 1.14 in). Ask for measurements of each plaque and confirmation of the combined weight and pair price before ordering.

Keeping this piece at its best

  • Wipe with a soft, lightly dampened cloth and dry gently. Avoid abrasive polish, harsh cleaners and sudden temperature changes.
  • Store separately in a padded pouch and protect the carved edges from knocks.
  • Check the suspension point and cord regularly. Remove the piece before bathing, swimming or vigorous activity.

Documentation status for 163YU-98591

A laboratory report has not been independently verified for this listing. This archived piece is not offered for sale. For any proposed similar piece, ask whether a laboratory report is available for that exact item. Request a readable copy showing the issuing laboratory, report number, item photograph, measurements and the scope of the conclusion. Verify the number through the laboratory's own official service and compare the report details with the item being offered. Confirm whether both plaques are covered; a report identifying only one piece should not be treated as a report for the pair.
