About This Piece
A rising-sun scene sits inside an ornate oval border. The reverse bears a four-character inscription, with the full views showing the pierced crest and small opening at the base.
Carving details and what to examine
Openwork creates actual openings through the jade, so the surrounding bridges are part of the structure as well as the design. Look at both faces and the inside edges under changing light to assess the finish and check for damage around these narrow connections.
Material and stated origin
This plaque is listed as white nephrite and depicts The Rising Sun. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification.
