About This Piece
The plaque has gently bowed sides, an arched frame and a seated Vairocana figure above a lotus pedestal. Its broad, uncarved back provides a clear comparison with the relief on the front.
Carving details and what to examine
The quieter reverse gives a useful comparison with the worked face. View the front, back and edge together to see how the relief meets the outline and how the polish changes across the surfaces. A smooth-looking back in a photograph does not establish that the stone is free of internal features.
Material and stated origin
This plaque is listed as white nephrite and depicts Vairocana Buddha. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification. The supplied description notes yellow skin. This is a description of appearance, not confirmation of treatment status.
