About This Piece

A dark snow leopard stretches along a very slim white plaque. Its long curling body uses the contrasting colour to stand out against the pale ground; the source identifies lingzhi forms in the surrounding scene.

Carving details and what to examine

The colour contrast helps separate parts of the composition. Compare the photographed colour boundaries with the carved outlines to see how the design uses the material. Colour placement is a visual feature; whether a coloured area is natural or treated requires separate evidence.

Material and stated origin

This plaque is listed as white nephrite and depicts Snow Leopard with Lingzhi. Its stated origin is Russia; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification. The supplied description notes dark skin. This is a description of appearance, not confirmation of treatment status.
