About This Piece
A bearded wealth deity is surrounded by coin motifs on a brown teardrop plaque. The lighter plain reverse makes the darker carved front and its fine lines particularly distinct.
Carving details and what to examine
The quieter reverse gives a useful comparison with the worked face. View the front, back and edge together to see how the relief meets the outline and how the polish changes across the surfaces. A smooth-looking back in a photograph does not establish that the stone is free of internal features.
Material and stated origin
This plaque is listed as yellow-coloured nephrite, described as huangqin and depicts Welcoming Wealth and Treasure. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification.
