About This Piece
An ornate crest tops a greenish Wushi plaque with a broad plain centre. The raised perimeter creates a frame whose curved corners soften the rectangular shape.
Carving details and what to examine
The framing is part of the composition, so examine its relationship to the central motif as well as the motif itself. Edge and angled views help show whether the border is raised, recessed or simply outlined, and make the transitions into the main surface easier to assess.
Material and stated origin
This plaque is listed as green nephrite (qingyu) and depicts Wushi, a Wish for Peace. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification.
