About This Piece
A partial archaistic dragon medallion follows one edge of a plain rectangular plaque. The off-centre placement leaves most of the face open, and the reverse remains undecorated.
Carving details and what to examine
The plant forms invite a close look at the meeting points between petals, leaves and the surrounding ground. Compare these small details with the larger outline to judge the balance of the design. Side lighting is useful for seeing depth without mistaking a cast shadow for a carved line.
Material and stated origin
This plaque is listed as white nephrite and depicts Archaistic Dragon. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification.
