About This Piece
A pierced archaistic dragon curls through the upper corner of a long rectangular plaque. A dotted scroll decorates the base, leaving a wide band of plain jade between the two motifs.
Carving details and what to examine
Openwork creates actual openings through the jade, so the surrounding bridges are part of the structure as well as the design. Look at both faces and the inside edges under changing light to assess the finish and check for damage around these narrow connections.
Material and stated origin
This plaque is listed as white nephrite and depicts Archaistic Dragon. Its stated origin is Xinjiang, China; the geographic attribution is separate from mineral identification.
